About San Diego Scotch Club

The San Diego Scotch Club formed in 2016 as a partner of the nations largest, the LA Scotch Club. The purpose of the club being to:

• Meet friends that enjoy scotch drinking
• Share the expense of exploring new scotch
• Teach the less experienced
• Learn from the more experienced

Some events will be sponsored purely or in part by friends in the whisky industry while others are fronted entirely by SDSC. Prices may range from $10 to $100, depending on the costs incurred for the site or bottles. The club strives to break even, and sometimes even achieves that. Our payoff is in the camaraderie and experience of new whisky.

What to expect at an SDSC event:

• Experienced scotch drinkers. We’ve been doing this for years.
• Inexperienced scotch drinkers. Absolutely every event has a new face. Many just curious to learn more.
• A respect for the scotch and the desire to study and appreciate it.
• A lively and enjoyable night. Mix whisky and good friends and this will happen.
• A scotch experience far more affordable than a night out drinking at a bar. We are thrifty.
• A scotch experience far better than a night out at a bar. We are thrifty snobs.
• Someone who wants to hear you talk about scotch.
• Someone willing to share knowledge. We love to hear ourselves discuss scotch.
• Mixed company. We have men and women, young and old. Anyone over 21 is welcome to partake, and do.
• Respected scotch expressions often seen at good whisky shops.
• Many scotch expressions that are new, rare, or obscure.
• At least 1 event per month, at different locations all over San Diego, on different days of the week.
• Family friendly events. Granted the kids will be bored, but when we have space we welcome attendees to bring a friends or family. We are a responsible group.
• Non-scotch whiskies, especially from distilleries making scotch-like sprits.

What NOT to expect at an SDSC event:

• A stodgy tasting where a kilted guru preaches about what you are drinking in a room full of hushed listeners.
• A Scottish based event. We are a scotch club not a Scottish club. The kilts and pipes come out on special occasions like Burns Night.
• A booze-fest. We may have a good time, but we are not a frat party and our members are expected to behave respectfully. We have a great track record.
• Bad or boring whisky. Except as a joke.
• Events purely for networking. Yes, we are mostly professionals, and friendships often lead to other things. Our primary focus is sharing scotch.
• A formal lesson for beginners. We explain what we are drinking but we won’t teach you how to drink it, although any member will be happy to help.
